INSTRUCTIONS / CHECKLIST FOR OCCUPANTS
Accessibility
• Keep beds, couches, dressers, or other furniture accessible and 12 inches away from all walls in the treatment rooms. Do not stack items on them. Drain or deflate any water or air beds.
• Larger electronics such as TVs and computers should remain in place.
• Place unwashed linens, towels, blankets, etc., LOOSELY into open-weave laundry baskets.
• Other small items, such as shoes, knick-knacks, toys, electronics (including CDs and DVDs), papers, books, and magazines, can be placed in milk crates or open weave laundry baskets for treatment. All loose items must be placed in baskets, off the floor, and centred away from the walls.
Final Steps
• Dispose of all trash and vacuum thoroughly. The vacuum bag should be emptied, but leave the vacuum for heating.
• All houseplants and pets, including fish, must be removed by the morning of the service date.
• Wheelchairs and walkers must be treated.
• If possible, raise the temperature on your home’s thermostat two hours before the confirmed treatment start time.
• AVOID applying your own insecticides before or after treatment as they may worsen the problem.
• Take only essential items with you when leaving your home during treatment. Clothing that you take should be dried immediately upon returning home following treatment.
After the Heat Treatment Service
Upon returning, your home may still be warm, and some items may be moved to distribute the heat evenly. While some disorder may occur due to heat treatment, it is minimized by proper preparation. Please follow these instructions carefully!
ITEMS THAT CANNOT BE HEATED
• All aerosol and pressurized cans – including hairspray, deodorants, bug spray, asthma inhalers, spray paint, fire extinguishers, oxygen tanks, and cleaning products.
• Medications, foods that can melt (like chocolate), and beverages. Store these items in the refrigerator.
• Anything made from wax – candles, wax figurines, crayons, waxy cosmetics, and oil paintings.
• Vinyl records, photo negatives, film strips, ink printer cartridges.
• All flammable materials – butane lighters, lamp fuel, solvents, fuel for food warmers, ammunition, etc.
• Musical instruments (a piano may be treated but will probably need tuning afterwards).
Leave these items inside the door in one or more containers or bags, clearly labelled “DO NOT HEAT”. We will inspect them for bed bugs and treat by other means if necessary. Heat can damage wallpaper, linoleum tile, laminated furniture, and laminates in general. Extreme Pest Control is not responsible for damage to these or any items left in the home during heat treatment.
Bed bugs are a serious and challenging pest.
Thank you for your cooperation in preparing your home.
